Accessory Dwelling Units - krispaxton - 05-13-2024

In Siloam we are looking at creating an ADU ordinance (to allow them), and one of the things that came up is the ability to regulate the design. We would like the design reflect the architectural stylings of the primary structure, but it is unclear if we can require that. The state law exempts " A multifamily residential structure or other nonsingle-family dwelling;" but it doesn't clearly define "nonsingle-family dwelling". My thoughts are that an ADU is not a single-family dwelling, because it is reliant on the primary dwelling to be constructed first, making it an "accessory" to a single-family dwelling. I am having my Senior Planner look at other cities and see how they defined "Accessory Dwelling Unit". Is this something others considered when they wrote their ADU code?
